A Local’s Guide to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk

Are you searching for things to do in Myrtle Beach this spring? There’s no better place to start than the iconic boardwalk. Stretching 1.2 miles along the oceanfront, the Boardwalk is the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach. It is filled with oceanfront restaurants, lively attractions, unique shops, family-friendly stops, and unbeatable views of the Atlantic.
As winter (thankfully) is coming to an end and spring begins, March is one of the best times to explore the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk before the bustle of tourist season. So, if you’re planning your trip to Myrtle Beach this spring, here’s your local guide to making the most of it.
Where to Eat on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk
No visit to the Myrtle Beach is complete without oceanfront dining. The Boardwalk is home to some amazing restaurants, bars, and shops to grab something to eat.
If you’re looking for a great place to start the day, a place like Johnny D’s is a local favorite. This family-owned diner is known for hearty breakfast plates, creative waffles, and classic eggs Benedict. It’s a great sit-down option before spending the day exploring the Boardwalk.
For rooftop views and some classic bar food, head to RipTydz Oceanfront Grille & Rooftop Bar. As spring approaches, live music and themed events around St. Patrick’s Day begin picking back up. It’s a go-to spot for frozen drinks, classic American favorites, and a pretty good view!
Our favorite dinner spot has to go to our friends at LandShark Bar & Grill. It’s a solid choice for casual dining on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Located steps from the beach and right next door to the SkyWheel, it offers burgers, seafood baskets, sandwiches, and frozen drinks in a relaxed setting. It’s an easy spot to grab dinner before or after your ride while staying close to the ocean and everything happening downtown.
Shopping, Arcades & Attractions
No boardwalk is complete without souvenir shops and beachside arcades, right? If you’re looking for a unique place to shop, the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove is one of the most famous souvenir shops on the Grand Strand. With multiple levels filled with beachwear, collectibles, décor, and gifts, it’s a must-visit stop along the Boardwalk.
Arcades and family-friendly attractions are also a staple of the Promenade. Stop by a classic Boardwalk Arcade right beside Player Park! It’s a great time to enjoy classic games, win prizes, and soak up some early-season beach time before peak summer crowds.
March Events in Myrtle Beach
March marks the unofficial start of spring tourism in Myrtle Beach. Throughout the month, visitors can enjoy:
- The St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival begins just a few miles away in North Myrtle Beach on March 14th!
- Enjoy good southern food at the Surfside Beach BBQ Festival happening March 6-7 where vendors will sell their barbecue dishes.
- For the athletes, join the Myrtle Beach Marathon happening March 7th at Pelican’s Ballpark as runners make their way down the Boardwalk.
Also, be sure to mark your calendar for our spring Waggin’ on the Wheel event on March 28 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM! During this special event, guests are invited to bring a donation for the Grand Strand Humane Society. This can be money, dog beds, food, treats, blankets, or paper towels.
In return, visitors will receive a free pet photo and the chance to enjoy the experience with their pet riding along on the wheel. Funds raised during the event will support the Grand Strand Humane Society, and we’re proud to partner with them twice a year for this fun, community-focused day. Plus, while you’re there, stop by LandShark Landing to enjoy our “Yappy Hour,” featuring special themed drinks to celebrate the occasion.
End Your Boardwalk Experience Above the Ocean
After a little dinner and a lot of shopping, there’s one experience that defines the end of your night in Myrtle Beach. It has to be a ride on the SkyWheel right on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk!
Towering 187 feet above the ocean, the SkyWheel offers the best panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Plus, you can’t beat a sunset cruise in early spring. The cooler evenings make it especially comfortable to enjoy any nighttime ride.
For a romantic date night, family outing, or spring break event, there’s no better way to welcome the new season.
